The Compton courthouse is located at 200 W Compton Blvd, Compton, CA 90220. The Compton Courthouse handles DUI, criminal, and traffic cases. The Compton courthouse is famous for a few things. First of all, it’s the only tall building in the city of Compton besides the casino.
From the 91 freeway just pass the 710 you can see the building in the distance. The other interesting thing about the Compton Courthouse is that the elevators move slow and the docket moves quick!
Parking is available in the garage on the southwest portion of the property for a flat fee of $5 and probably a good investment. The surrounding area is high density and high crime so searching for that rare free parking space could be more trouble than it is worth.
The garage is located at 400 South Acacia Ave. It is south of the Compton courthouse, on the corner of Acacia Ave. and Myrrh St. Parking is free for all jurors.
Upon entering the Compton Courthouse, the traffic clerk’s office is the tremendous line to your right. This line can be as long as an hour plus. If you have a failure to appear, warrant, or license hold on a traffic matter, don’t bother waiting in this line as you will simply be told to go to the GC Services window upstairs in Room 205. Department 1 on the far right corner of the first floor handles traffic matters, so if you aren’t ready to just give up and pay by the time you get to the front of the line, this is where you will be sent.
The criminal departments are upstairs and this is where the docket moves like a rocket but the elevators move like snails. The lobby for the elevators seems promising with a bank of multiple elevators. But soon you realize that only one or two seem to be functional and they sure fill up fast. Getting into an elevator is kind of like getting onto the subway in New York or Tokyo. It’s just a matter of time until the Sheriff’s Department starts staffing the area.
If you are lucky enough to make it to your designated courtroom, be prepared to see speedy justice in action. Compton Criminal courts are notorious for moving the docket. Continuances are rarely granted and while this strategy sometimes benefits the prosecution it can also serve as a great tool for the defense as well. Both sides better be ready because it’s going to trial within the statutory period or it’s getting dismissed. If you want to make sure the policies of the Compton courthouse are used to your advantage instead of your detriment, you should consider retaining an attorney with experience in the Compton Courthouse.
