The Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse, formally known as the Lancaster Courthouse is located at 42011 4th Street West, Lancaster, CA 93534.  The Lancaster courthouse (sorry, the Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse is too much of a mouthful for us so we will be using its former name from here on out) is actually one of the newer and nicer courthouses in the County of Los Angeles. And yes, I know what you are thinking, but Lancaster IS in Los Angeles County. Lancaster is the northern border of the county of LA. Although it may feel like you are in the inland empire or Kern County, you are actually still in LA. The next courthouse to the north is Mojave which is the beginning of the Kern County court system. And while the Lancaster court may be a new and modern piece of architecture, inside the court it’s county business as usual. Our slow, inefficient system of justice for alleged criminal and traffic offenders.
One benefit to making the drive out to the Lancaster courthouse is free parking!  Free parking at the Lancaster court is available in the lot surrounding the building and plenty of open space and free dirt parking is located in the surrounding area if you are willing to make a short walk.  If you have a DUI or criminal case in the Lancaster courthouse, a warrant, or traffic cases in collections, it may be cost effective to send a lawyer on your behalf.  A lawyer experienced in traffic and criminal law can often save enough money to cover their own fees, saving you time, effort, and damage on your record.
The traffic clerk at the Lancaster courthouse is notoriously busy. Lines can be upwards of an hour most days of the week. The traffic clerk’s office in Lancaster includes both the court clerks as well as the dreaded collection agency of GC Services for those unfortunate enough to have a failure to appear or FTA which may be holding or suspending your California Drivers License or even an out of state license. For many people, the visit to the courthouse starts with waiting over an hour in line, only to be told when your reach the clerk that you actually need to go the window outside to deal with GC Services. The clerk for the criminal clerk is only slightly more efficient. Most days the criminal clerk’s office will have a good line going and only one or two windows open.
